If you cannot save the inspection, you cannot prove what you saw. DVR recording and distance counters turn a live look into a reusable report.
Why recording matters for customers
- Plumbers quote faster from a clear clip than from a phone description.
- Landlords document conditions between tenants.
- Insurance and disputes need dated evidence.
- You will forget distances without notes.
DVR / SD recording tips
Prefer kits with onboard recording to an SD/TF card (often 16–32 GB included). Phone-only Wi-Fi apps can work, but they fail when the phone overheats, disconnects, or fills storage mid-run.
- Test record/playback before the first real job.
- Carry a spare formatted card.
- Note whether audio narration or on-screen text is supported.
- Offload files the same day; label with address + date.
Distance counters
Electronic counters (feet/meters) estimate how far the head has traveled. Cable jacket marks are a useful backup. Counters can slip—re-zero at the cleanout and sanity-check against known pipe lengths.
Evidence checklist
Insurance and quote packaging
For claims and competitive quotes, keep files small and labeled. A 40-minute continuous dump is harder to use than three 20-second defect clips plus one overview. Dedicated workflow: recording for insurance.
